Becoming a Volunteer


Application

To become a Bellingham At Home Assistance Volunteer, please click on the link below and complete the application.

You may also pick up an application at the BAH office at the Bellingham Senior Center.

Screening

Prospective volunteers must go through the following screening process by:


·       Providing two personal references (not family members)

·       Participating in a 20-30 minute in-person interview with a BAH volunteer

·       Providing information for a criminal background check to Sterling Volunteers


Additional requirements for volunteers who wish to provide transportation to members:

  • Providing a WSDOT records check
  • Providing a valid driver's license and proof of up-to-date automobile insurance  


Note:  The first two items above are generally done prior to volunteer training.  The last two are completed after the training. 

Training

Volunteers are required to participate in a Volunteer Orientation session.  Topics include:

  • An overview of Bellingham At Home
  • Typical volunteer tasks
  • The importance of boundaries in working with our members
  • The challenges of aging (including hearing loss, physical limitations, memory issues)
  • Signing the Volunteer Code of Ethics
