Support Buddies

While many members call upon our volunteers for assistance with occasional chores, some of us need a little more support at certain times in our lives in order to stay safe and independent. For these people, Bellingham At Home has developed Support Buddies, a volunteer program of one-on-one, ongoing relationships.

Members who might benefit from a Support Buddy include those who:

·       Live alone with limited or no family support.

·       Have multiple or changing medical conditions.

·       Have limited mobility or other impairments, such as limited vision.

·       Experience cognitive impairment.

·       Are transitioning to an assisted living or rehabilitation facility.

The role of Support Buddy ranges from weekly phone calls or visits… to helping identify and link the member with other community resources… to making and taking the member to doctor appointments, sometimes taking notes for the person… to acting as a liaison with family members if requested… to taking walks on a regular basis… to whatever else seems like a good idea to both people.

Any Bellingham At Home full member may request a Support Buddy at any time. Led by Linda Feltham
